A Seagull
I saw a seagull the other day,
with feathers white as snow
and a beak
of orange, as though tasted summer peaches,
and one red dot had it:
Where from, what for-
Who can say?
I saw it soar,
without flapping its wings,
just lifted up by wind,
higher and higher it came,
then turned
to catch a flame
and flew away...
I watched it floating far at sea
and wondered:
Where will its feet
the ground next meet?
