Slowly the disease worked, chipping and chiseling away.
Stealthily erasing what his brain had meticulously recorded over decades.
Was it something he was at one point aware of?
This slippage of past and present.
The offhanded remarks: "O, I forgot"
"No, I don't remember that"
Those puzzled looks, his upstairs cogwheels labored, barely budging in an attempt to place himself there where you reminded him, wanting at first to engage his memory.
Jolt it, buzz it to life.
Tick-tock the clock mocks.
Keeps ticking, yet for him stops.
At a foreign destination not of his choosing.
Is there ever a fleeting moment of recognition, a bold rebellion before losing?
What a mysterious phenomenon memory is.
Long-term, short-term.
Is there an in-between term memory?
Yanked from one world, transferred into another.
One in which he had no compass for, no reference to translate.
Frustration grew.
Fury joined the outbursts.
Not even the fortitude of endless patience could save the day.
The light dimming more and more till there wasn't a speck of us left.
