Rain-drenched foliage. Yesterday evening's/night's bombastic storm gave up it's rage. This morning turns another page. Ripped tree limbs scatter the parks perimeter. Leaves tossed about like party confetti. Air thick with humidity. Not a breeze stirs. All is still. Eerily peaceful unlike the hurricane force gales just 9 hours ago. Water drips. Atmosphere pregnant with a muggy, stifling effect.
Sun, struggling to absorb water-logged Jersey. Fountain shoots high from the middle of the park's small lake. If you stand right you'll see a fat rainbow. Red, yellow, green, and a slight purple hue. That's my cue to capture the moment. Snapshots in time. Lyrical inspiration. Birds trill in a shaded tree lined corner. Hugging the pebbled shore.
While a large white Egret awaits his catch. Suspended, almost statue- like he/she stands one-legged ( other leg up for emphasis? Dramatic effect? Who knows!) His/Her patience pays off......
After 15 minutes a swift peck of sizeable beak. And a fish is caught!
A baby chipmunk ( pretty black bold racer stripe flanked by two thin white stripes) flits from the underbrush. Inspecting the grounds. A few squirrels peer nosily from a tall pine. Lazy cotton ball clouds float in an azure sky. This complacent scene does belie the storm drama that took place Tuesday.
In the aftermath renewal throws a stray beam of Hope; proving that storms pass and bring back collective calm. Don't focus on what's wrong. See the gems of Life; the positives, all that defines and makes strong.
